Local Anesthesia

• Your child has received a local anesthetic, possibly for the first time.
• In addition to blocking sensation from the teeth, anesthetic “numbs” the lips, cheek, and tongue in the area of treatment. This may be a puzzling or curious sensation for a child.
• Make sure that your child does not bite, suck, or chew on his/her lips, cheeks or tongue. ⇒ Failure to do so can cause laceration or swelling of the treated area. While this is not serious it is most uncomfortable.
• Therefore, please watch your child closely for approximately one to one and a half hours. During this period your child must avoid eating until the anesthetic has “worn off”.

Stainless Steel Crowns / Prefabricated Resin Crowns

• Please avoid sticky foods such as ⇒ hard candy, caramel, gum and taffy.
• You must floss around the tooth: cement or food may get caught in between the teeth and become uncomfortable.
• In the event a crown comes off, call the office for an appointment and bring the crown with you.
