For Stronger, Healthier Teeth
At the Pediatric Dental Center, we prioritize the prevention of tooth decay, and fluoride treatment is a key part of our approach to keeping your child’s teeth strong and healthy.
Fluoride is a natural mineral that has been proven to strengthen teeth and prevent cavities in people of all ages. The American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, and American Medical Association all recommend the use of topical fluoride for maintaining good oral health.
Does your child need fluoride treatment?
You may be wondering if your child needs fluoride treatments. While many communities have fluoridated water, some do not, which may mean your child could benefit from additional fluoride treatments. These treatments may also be necessary if your child has specific conditions like receding gums, wears braces, or takes medications that cause dry mouth.
How do Fluoride treatments work?
Fluoride treatments are quick, painless, and can be completed during your child’s routine dental appointment. The treatment involves applying a gel, foam, or varnish to the teeth, and it typically takes just a few minutes. For optimal results, fluoride treatments are recommended one to four times per year.
In addition to fluoride treatments, the American Dental Association also suggests drinking fluoridated water and using toothpaste with fluoride to further protect your child’s teeth.
